I'm sure most of you have played Pokemon Red and Blue and I'm sure that most of that fraction of our members know what Missingno is. Ever wonder how that glitch worked? Well, here's a detailed explanation that makes perfect sense if you are (or are learning to be in my case) a programmer, even regular gamers might understand it. An explanation of the Missingno glitch and how it works. www.trsrockin.com/missingno4.htmlIt's interesting if you want to check it out.

It's not really a "hack," it's more of a glitch, just something the game designers didn't know about. Hacking a game is when you use a Gameshark, Gamegenie (do they even make those anymore?) or Action Replay.

They probably failed to keep up with Gameshark and went out of business.
EDIT: I swear, all you and Iris do is roleplay in the medieval section...

I Remember Missingno, his base (Glitched and unviewable version) was the idea of the unknowns, and the glitch was that he gave you glitched amounts of the sixth item in your inventory, that is how i got my pokemon up to lvl.100 in a few short hours

There are many variations of Missingno because he was just a placeholder. There were only 151 actual Pokemon in the game, but the game ran on an 8-bit system which meant there was room for 104 (255 [highest binary value] - 151 [number of used Pokemon slots] = 104 [total placeholders]) more Pokemon, Missingno and various other glitch Pokemon exist in those extra spots.
As for the items, here's how it works. Let's say you have 12 rare candies in the sixth slot in your inventory. In binary, 12 would become 00001100, Missingno takes the first bit (the first zero in there) and turns it to a one, which would make it 10001100, which converts to decimal as 140. In simpler terms, if you have 127 (or less) of the item in the sixth slot, it adds 128, but if you have 128 or more, it does nothing at all.
However, I don't think Missingno has any co-relation to any current Pokemon, his image could just be a scrambled tile set piece for all we know. Other variations of Missingno were the ghost, Aerodactyl fossil and Kabutops fossil.
